CASSIE MANNES MURRAY
Cassie Mannes Murray is a literary agenting at Howland Literary. While representing brilliant authors, Cassie also designs for Ecotone Magazine and Lookout Books, writes book reviews and interviews authors for Raleigh Review, and is completing her MFA in creative nonfiction at UNCW.
Her writing can be read in Passages North, The Rumpus, and HobartPulp. She has been supported by Kenyon Writers Workshop and the Shannon Morton Fellowship. By being a writer and an agent, Cassie believes she understands multiple perspectives of publishing and is looking to bridge any gaps for emerging writers.
Before transitioning into publishing, she was a high school teacher for six years and is always eager to support public education. She is looking to represent writers that bend genre constraints and are hard to categorize. Cassie always has room on her list for unputdownable, voice-driven nonfiction, fiction, and young adult literature.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR
I am looking for voice-driven, unputdownable manuscripts that are hard to qualify under current marketing categories. If it might fit on multiple independent bookstore shelves, I want to read it. At the moment, I'm particularly interested in finding new essay collections, genre-bending hybrid work, and writers who bridge the divide between literary and commercial fiction. If an author has poetic sensibilities, I would love to read their manuscript. I am open to nonfiction, fiction, and young adult literature.
