Research available agents and editors. To help you choose a good match for your work, you will find the names and bios of available agents and editors here, as well as a list of genres they represent. Please note that we will continue to add agents and editors in the months leading up to the Muse!

Register for the Muse. During the registration process, select your agent(s) or editor(s). You may reserve as many appointments as you like. To make additional appointments afterward, follow the instructions on this page. You must register for the conference to participate in the Manuscript Mart.

FORMAT & SUBMIT YOUR MANUSCRIPT

Polish your twenty-page sample and make it as strong as you possibly can. It should represent your best work and preferably be the first twenty pages of a book-length manuscript.

We strongly recommend including an optional query letter and synopsisA query letter and synopsis help agents and editors give you better feedback relevant to your entire work. We strongly recommend including a query letter. You can find suggestions for writing a query letter here and for writing a one-page synopsis here.

Use our Manuscript Checklist to ensure you have formatted your sample according to our guidelines. Here are the basics:

  • No more than twenty (20) double-spaced pages of a fiction or nonfiction manuscript. Pages will be numbered, titled, in black 12-point Times New Roman font, on white 8.5 x 11–inch electronic pages, with one-inch margins on all sides.
  • You may include an optional one-page query and/or one-page synopsis of the work as a whole. The query and synopsis may be single-spaced.
  • Your manuscript will be submitted in a single Microsoft Word document. Document examples could include the following:
    • twenty (20) double-spaced pages of manuscript + a one-page query + a one-page synopsis (22 pages total)
    • twenty (20) double-spaced pages of manuscript + a one-page query (21 pages total)
    • twenty (20) double-spaced pages of manuscript + a one-page synopsis (21 pages total)
    • twenty (20) double-spaced pages of manuscript (20 pages total)
  • The title of the file MUST be your full name, e.g., ToniMorrison.doc. Files must end in a .doc, .docx, or .pdf extension.

If you have registered for multiple meetings, you will submit a Manuscript Sample form once per agent or editor. This form will be posted here shortly after registration opens.

Submit you manuscript by 11:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, March 28, 2022. Under no circumstances will we accept late submissions. We cannot offer refunds or credits if you do not submit on time.

PREPARE FOR & ATTEND YOUR MEETING

You will receive an email with your full conference itinerary by Wednesday, April 13, 2022. This email will include your Manuscript Mart placement confirmation and appointment time(s).

On the day of your meeting, the agent or editor you are meeting with will call you at the designated time at the phone number you provided during registration.

Please conclude your discussion(s) promptly so that subsequent meetings may start on time.

You will receive an email from the Muse team on Sunday, May 8, requesting an evaluation of your Manuscript Mart experience. The information you provide is vital for ensuring the Manuscript Mart continues to meet our high standards.
