MUSE 2022: OUR FIRST-EVER HYBRID CONFERENCE

Muse 2022 will be a hybrid event, with sessions on craft and publishing happening virtually, and parties, networking events, and other gatherings happening in-person in Boston. Learn more here!

TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS

We offer partial need-based scholarships for a general audience, writers doing great work in the literary community, and writers from historically marginalized backgrounds. No previous publication or MFA required, and there is no application fee.

We welcome you to apply for multiple tuition scholarships. Select every scholarships for which you would like to be considered. We award nearly all tuition scholarships in quantities of $140, to cover 50% of the recipient's Muse 2022 registration; occasionally we offer larger amounts to individuals demonstrating particular need and writerly promise. All recipients will enjoy a 50% discount on in-person events for which they register, once the events are announced in early 2022. All tuition scholarships we offer are listed below.

ADD-ON SCHOLARSHIPS

There are also a limited number of add-on scholarships available for the Manuscript Mart. Please indicate on your scholarship application if you wish to be considered for these as well. You do not need to specify which agent or editor you prefer while applying. You will choose the agent or editor when you register for the conference, but we advise you to register and make your selection(s) as quickly as possible after registration opens. Our most popular meetings tend to sell out fast.

Please note: The Manuscript Mart sample and query letter you submit for your scholarship application in the fall do not need to be the same versions you submit to your agent or editor in the spring. We highly encourage you to continue revising your materials in the intervening months, if you desire! You can also query a different project if you like and will have until the Manuscript Mart submission deadline to decide. For the add-on scholarship, we look broadly for whether your writing and projects are developed enough to benefit from participation in the Manuscript Mart.

HOW TO APPLY

All applications require a 5- to 10-page writing sample, and the Manuscript Mart Add-On Scholarship requires a query letter as well. The deadline for all scholarship applications is Monday, November 8, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. EST. We will notify everyone by Monday, November 22. Registration dates will be announced soon, so stay tuned!

Successful applications usually contain a short paragraph painting a clear financial picture for the committee to consider and explain how the applicant will benefit from the Muse & the Marketplace. We do not ask for corroborating documents; we only ask that you help us understand your situation.
