MARIA NAPOLITANO

A white woman in her 30s, with a nose ring, light brown hair, and green eyes.

Maria Napolitano is an agent at Bookcase Literary Agency. Previously, she spent nearly five years as a book scout at Aram Fox, Inc., where she fell in love with the process of matchmaking books with just the right editors and publishers around the world. As an agent, Maria represents a broad range of fiction, from commercial rom-coms to subversive thrillers and upmarket book club fiction. Her free time is largely spent reading or running—but none of that reading-on-the-treadmill nonsense. Maria is a born New Yorker and Cornell graduate who currently lives in Astoria, Queens with a sourdough starter named Ryeley.

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR

In adult fiction I’m looking for a wide range of commercial to upmarket fiction, in particular: family sagas and complicated friendship stories, feminist perspectives, a bit of genre-bending, supremely pitchable high concept work. I’m also looking for romance and rom-coms with a big, fresh feel, and diverse representation, especially queer romance. I am interested in suspense & thriller, especially with a literary edge, unique central premise, or self-awareness that adds another dimension to the project — but not genre crime writing, military fiction, procedurals, or cozies. In general, I prefer contemporary to historical settings, but overall I’m interested in work that deals with people, places, and time periods that have been under discussed in mainstream publishing.
