the Visiting Writer Scholarship

This scholarship offers a full three-day tuition to the Muse, valued at $530, plus an additional $500 travel stipend, to a writer living outside of New England. Don’t let geography and cost stop you from coming to the Muse! No publication or MFA degree required. Apply by Sunday, March 12th at midnight EST.


We’re offering numerous $250.00 scholarships for writers who identify as a person of color, and are committed to making the unique needs of writers of color central to our programming. No publication or MFA degree required. Apply by Sunday, March 31st at midnight EST.

SCHOLARSHIP FOR a writer living with a disability

The first-ever Lesley University Mani Iyer Writer Scholarship honors “Mani Iyer, a deaf-blind poet who graduated from Lesley University’s MFA in Creative Writing program June 2016. He was an inspiration to us all.” This full-tuition scholarship is meant to support a writer living with a physical, intellectual or emotional disability. Apply by Sunday, March 31st at midnight EST.



The cost of the Muse and the Marketplace 2017 varies depending on your membership status, the number of days you attend, and your optional participation in the Manuscript Mart and/or Shop Talk Lunch. The breakdown is as follows:

Full Weekend (3 days) for members: $495
Full Weekend (3 days) for non-members: $530

Friday or Saturday Only for members: $350
Friday or Saturday Only for non-members: $380

Each Manuscript Mart Appointment: $195
Shop Talk Lunch Table: $75
You must register and pay for the conference online, which will open in mid-January 2017. All your selections for sessions, Manuscript Mart appointments, and Shop Talk tables represent REQUESTS that we will do our best to accommodate, but we reserve the right to assign you to alternative choices based on late scheduling changes and other factors out of our control. Registration will be open until 12:00pm on Monday, May 1st, though please know that the conference usually sells out well before then.


Refund Policy

We accept Visa and Mastercard. Advance payment and this registration information are due in full to reserve your place at the event.

We cannot refund money for this event. However, if you let us know that you are unable to attend by 12:00pm on Monday, May 1st, we will gladly apply the amount of payment minus a $75 processing fee to a future GrubStreet class. Note that we are not able to offer refunds or credits for the Manuscript Mart if you do not submit your manuscript by 12:00pm on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017. There are no credits for cancellation after 12:00pm on Monday, May 1st.
